Sincere thank you to "all" in attendance helping to celebrate a 20 year monumental milestone! District Six Officer's Commander Harry Seiler, Senior Vice Commander Karen Nigara, Junior Vice Commander John Burgess, Surgeon Arden Battle, Chaplain Robert Hernandez and LAVFW District Six President Barbara Bobbitt, Guard Daisy Jones and Trustee Annie C. Dunn lead the way for a great district representation of Post Commander's Presidents and members! Comrade Senior Vice Commander Harold M. Baldwin conducted "In Memory of Tribute" for the following Hero's to ensure so long as one person remembers… their legacy lives on! Comrade’s Oscar Peek, Preston Holmes, Billy Moore, Isiah Williams, George Scriven, Johnnie Davis, John Clark and Rudy Mears!
Adding purpose to the event Madam District Six President Barbara Bobbitt and LAVFW 4761 President Regina Purcell under the watchful eyes of Dutch paper doll “INGA” headed up the Cancer Aid Research Fundraiser and the second fundraiser was for the National Home for Children.
Raffle winners 2004-06 Past District Six President Sue Mohrenne 1st ticket and LAVFW Post 4761 Senior vice President Theresa Williams 2nd ticket with first time guest 3rd and 4th tickets all pulled by our Most Seasoned "Montford Point Marine" and 67 years active in the VFW Comrade Officer of the Day Alpha Preston Gainous! LAVFW Post 4761 presented and served a buffet of food that was the icing on the cake to kick off fellowship and dancing the night away making for a grand celebration!! VFW Post 4761 Past Commander's- provided a gift of kind for "every person" that joined in our 20th Year Anniversary Celebration...smile.
2011 Back To School Supply Drive: General Daniel "Chappie" James VFW Post 4761 
Junior Vice Commander Dale Wilson, Quartermaster Margie Lozada and myself presented Reynolds Lane Elementary School Principal Todd Simpson with the school supplies generated from our VFW Post 4761 School Supply Drive!! Thank You to all for confirming that "stepping out on faith" for the "educational success" of our children is the right thing to do! By participating from your heart of service financially and or bringing school supplies for our youth resulted in about $400.00 worth of school supplies!! We(children,members and community) had fun, food and fellowship! Thanks sponsors: LSI, Red Hat Magnollia, BJ's and VFW Post 7909! Our Past Commander Clarence Marion Walker, USN, Hull Technician Chief, Savannah, Georgia Native born 30 April 1936 and 75 years young 2011 was presented the "Unsung Hero" award trophy from the State LAVFW President Nancy Trivett and National LAVFW Chaplain Armithea "Sissy" Borelfor for his many contributions to the VFW and LAVFW...congratulations! Unsung Heroes... The unsung hero program is open to all members of the Ladies Auxiliary, Post, and Men’s Auxiliary.
Our Junior Vice Commander Harold M. Baldwin was selected by the State Past Commanders Club as 3rd Place GI Joe Award plaque and $50.00 for his many efforts towards the continued success of the VFW...congratulations!! Judging is based on: The nominee’s interest in VFW Affairs, His/Her outstanding performance around the Post, The nominee’s participation in Community Activities, The hours spent and money saved for the Post. * First Place Award $100.00 * Second Place Award $75.00 * Third Place Award $50.00 and all will receive a Plaque. District Six received many awards and led the way in pledging to recruit new members by June 30, 2011 deadline towards the 100% goal in membership for the State! Comrades, our continuous hard work, perseverance, participation with integrity and faith, VFW Post 4761 will achieve our required % membership to attain "All State" 2011-2012. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer (Machinist’s Mate) (Surface Warfare/Air Warfare). A dedicated, distinguished and decorated 26 years of active duty career in the United States Navy. Awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal (For Heroism), 3 Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal. Received various citations and certificates.
Held leadership in management, education, machinery operations, and maintenance as senior enlisted. Honorably discharged from the United States Navy July 2006. Subject Matter Expert at LSI December 2006 - June 2010. Deployed in support of Gulf War, Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Desert Fox, Operation Enduring Freedom and Global War On Terrorism.

"Dedication of our VFW Post Colors" - National Awards - Obligations: 
Sincere thanks to those behind the scenes that made this a historical and memorable evening for all in attendance….smile. Monday September 14, 2009 1900 "Dedication of our VFW Post Colors", was a Historical, Proud and Grand Ceremony officiated by our own District Commander Don Bult and witnessed by State of Florida Department Senior Vice Commander Billy Moore, District Six Junior Vice Commander Harry Seiler, District Six President Trisha Edwards, District Six Senior Vice President Linda Seiler and Past District Commander Katie Smailis.
Our Post Colors was highlighted by a ceremonial United States Flag that was hoisted and flown over USS John F. Kennedy CV-67 in 2002 while the ship was deployed in support of “Operation Enduring Freedom”.
Followed by a " National Awards " presentation by Department Senior Vice Commander Billy Moore, District Commander Don Bult and VFW Post 4761 Commander Arden Battle to 85 years young VFW Post 4761 Guard Comrade Mr. Alpha Preston Gainous for his 65 years of Active loyal and dedicated VFW service and a second national award for over 30.000 hours of volunteer service to the community and success of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United states.
The icing on the cake during our post meeting was a new member obligations conducted by team efforts of District Six Commander Don Bult and VFW Post 4761 Past Commander Hallie Williams-Bey for our Programs Chairman and Web-site developer Comrade Rickie Barney...congratulations and welcome aboard !! Sincere thanks to "all" that made time out of your schedules to participate in a memorable occasion and wonderful evening!!!

October 25, 2008 Department Council of Administration past Commander-in-Chief John Gwizdak and Department Commander Dave Harris presented an award to VFW Post 4761 Guard Alpha Preston Gainous for his 64 years of VFW active membership. 

Birth Date - Jacksonville, Florida Native born 15 November 1924 and 85 years young. Alpha Preston Gainous, USMC, Staff Sergent, E-6
Joined Active Duty - June 1943 through June 1946 "Montford Point Marine" Wars Served In - WWII Units Served In - 5th Amphibious, G-2 Marine Corp Intelligence, Service Battalion VFW Active Member - Joined 14 August 1944 and currently serving as Guard VFW Post 4761 1950 - Attended The Historical Black College Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama and earned a degree in Health (Commercial Dietitian) He worked in many states as a Commercial Dietitian for ten years . 1960 - Changed his career to working in the shipyards as a Boiler Maker for ten years. 1970 - Another career change landed him in the Construction Field as Construction Forman. Mr. Alpha Preston Gainous and his devoted wife of 34 years before she passed away was blessed with their 54 year old daughter who takes care of him to this day in Jacksonville, Florida!! Mr. Alpha Preston Gainous is proudly serving in the capacity as GUARD for General Daniel "Chappie" James VFW Post 4761 Jacksonville, Florida.
